Snow is gently falling.
Moley makes his way through the snow.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/1_1.mp3
It is difficult as the ground is frozen.
Moley meets Red inside the forest.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/1_2.mp3
Red is on his way to the depot.
He wants to fetch some nuts.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/1_3.mp3
Moley goes with him.
Suddenly, they hear a sound.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/1_4.mp3
— What was that? Moley says.
— I don’t know, Red says.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/1_5.mp3
— I can run up a tree and look.
Red runs up a tall tree.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/1_6.mp3
— Can you see anything? Moley shouts.
— Yes, it is the farmer, Red says.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/2_1.mp3
— He is standing and banging on a tree.
We can go over and watch him.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/2_2.mp3
Moley and Red tiptoe over to the farmer.
He is about to fell a large pine tree with an ax.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/2_3.mp3
— What will he use the tree for? Moley says.
— It is not that big.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/2_4.mp3
It won’t make a lot of firewood.
The farmer carries the tree home to the farm.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/2_5.mp3
Moley and Red follow the farmer.
They watch him making a foot for the tree.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/3_1.mp3
Now it can stand upright on its own,
although it has not got roots.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/3_2.mp3
The farmer carries the tree into the living room.
Moley and Red look through a window.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/3_3.mp3
— What is he doing? Moley says.
— Is he going to make a forest in his living room?
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/3_4.mp3
— We will have to ask Otus, Red says.
— He knows a lot.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/3_5.mp3
Red and Moley walk over to the owl.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/3_6.mp3
— It is a Christmas tree,
Otus says.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/4_1.mp3
— Tonight, the farmer and his wife are going
to dance around the Christmas tree.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/4_2.mp3
They will decorate the tree with candy.
There is a star on top of the tree.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/4_3.mp3
They call it Christmas.
— We have to see that, Moley says.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/4_4.mp3
— Perhaps we could celebrate Christmas, too.
The same evening, Moley and Red go to the farmer.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/4_5.mp3
It is just as Otus said.
The tree is decorated and they are dancing around it.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/4_6.mp3
Next day, Moley says to Red:
— Shall we have a Christmas party just like the farmer?
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/5_1.mp3
I will go over to Otus.
He can fly around to the others.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/5_2.mp3
We could have our Christmas party in two hours.
— Yes, says Red.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/5_3.mp3
— I will go and fell the tree.
I have sharp teeth.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/5_4.mp3
Red goes out into the forest.
He finds a small tree.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/5_5.mp3
Red gnaws the tree over with his teeth.
Then he pulls the tree over to Moley’s burrow.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/5_6.mp3
Red decorates the tree with cones and nuts.
Moley arrives and says:— I passed Spiky on the way.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/6_1.mp3
But she was sleeping heavily,
so I could not wake her up.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/6_2.mp3
— No, Red says.
— Spiky will first wake up when it is spring.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/6_3.mp3
— I am just going to fetch some worms for the tree,
Moley says.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/6_4.mp3
— There are a few of us who eat meat.
A short while after Moley hangs worms on the tree.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/6_5.mp3
Now all of Red and Moley’s friends arrive.
Otus and Pecker come together.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/7_1.mp3
A little later, Foxy arrives.
She had gone to fetch a duck at the farmer’s.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/7_2.mp3
— I could not wake up Spiky, Moley says.
— And the swallow is in Africa.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/7_3.mp3
Otherwise, we are all gathered here.
— The animals dance around the Christmas tree.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/7_4.mp3
A little later they eat the decorations.
— What a lovely evening, Otus says.
book_data/moleyschristmasparty/lyd/7_5.mp3
— Let’s have another Christmas party in the summer.
Then the swallow and Spiky can also join.
