It is evening and Spiky is visiting Moley.
They are sitting on Moley’s mound.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/1_1.mp3
Suddenly they hear hooting and they look up.
It is Otus, who is flying down to them.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/1_2.mp3
— What’s going on? Otus says.
— Spiky is a little upset, Moley says.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/1_3.mp3
— I know that feeling, Otus says.
— Spiky has got the doldrums.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/1_4.mp3
She needs to see something new.
Now the dove arrives and lands on the mound.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/1_5.mp3
She hears about Spiky’s doldrums and says:
— We could go for a visit to the big city, tomorrow.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/1_6.mp3
There are many things to look at.
And I have a lot of friends, we can visit.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/1_7.mp3
— What is there to see in the city, Spiky sadly says.
— There are a lot of tall buildings built close to each other.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/2_1.mp3
A lot of people living there,
walk about in the streets of the city.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/2_2.mp3
But there are also cars,
so one has to be careful not to be driven over.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/2_3.mp3
— Are there any animals in the city? Moley says.
— Yes, there are a lot of animals, the dove says.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/2_4.mp3
— There are birds and cats.
They also have many dogs, that walk with humans on a lead.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/2_5.mp3
— Are there also moles? Moley says.
— Perhaps, but I haven’t seen any.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/2_6.mp3
Next day, the owl and dove fly to the city.
The owl has Spiky on his back, and the dove is flying with Moley.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/3_1.mp3
Moley has a basket with worms for them.
They are all looking forward to seeing the big city.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/3_2.mp3
The dove flies in front and shows the way.
— I’m hungry, Moley says. — Aren’t we there soon?
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/3_3.mp3
— There’s still a long way to fly, the dove says.
— But I know of a church in a small town.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/3_4.mp3
We can land there and take a break.
Shortly afterwards, the dove lands on a tall tower.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/3_5.mp3
— Is this the big city? Spiky says.
— There is only one tall building and no cars.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/3_6.mp3
— This is a very small town, the dove says.
— We will eat a couple of worms, and then fly on.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_1.mp3
They continue their flight and get closer to the big city.
— Look Spiky, says Otus. — Here’s the big city.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_2.mp3
Look at the tall buildings the dove has told us about.
There are also a lot of tall towers and big roads.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_3.mp3
Can you see the little forest in the middle of the city?
The dove leads the way and they land on a square.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_4.mp3
A lot of pigeons come to greet the dove.
— Come and meet my friends.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_5.mp3
— This is Moley, Spiky and Otus, the dove says.
Everyone says hello to each other.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_6.mp3
There is a bit of pushing going on,
so Spiky gets pushed out onto the road.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_7.mp3
Spiky gets frightened and rolls up into a ball.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_8.mp3
A car just barely manages to break in front of Spiky,
and Otus rolls Spiky back into the square, again.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/4_9.mp3
— Oh, I was so frightened, Spiky says.
— So much, that all of my spikes are shaking with fear.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/5_1.mp3
— Let’s fly over to the forest in the middle of the city, Otus says.
— We might be able to find a good bush, you can take a snooze under.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/5_2.mp3
— It isn’t called a forest, the dove says.
— It is called a park, when it lies inside the city. Follow me, Otus.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/5_3.mp3
They say goodbye to all of the dove’s friends and fly over to the park.
They land next to a small lake.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/5_4.mp3
Here they find a bush, and soon Spiky is asleep.
Some children are feeding bread to some ducks.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/5_5.mp3
When they see Otus, Moley and the dove,
they also begin throwing bread over to them.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/5_6.mp3
Moley tastes the bread, but doesn’t like it.
So he starts digging for worms in the ground.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/6_1.mp3
Both the dove and Otus like the bread.
Moley now appears out of a mole hole right next to a sleeping fox.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/6_2.mp3
The fox wakes up and says:
— Hello, and who are you, my little friend?
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/6_3.mp3
— I’m a mole, who is visiting the city.
Would you like some of the worms, I’ve just dug out?
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/6_4.mp3
— Yes please, the fox says and takes a couple of worms.
— Where do you get hens from? Moley says.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/6_5.mp3
— I don’t eat hens any longer, the fox says.
— One gets too many feathers in ones mouth.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/6_6.mp3
— Back home in our forest, we also have a fox.
She gets hens at the farmer’s.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/7_1.mp3
— Once upon a time I also used to do that, the fox says.
— But in the end, there weren’t any more hens so I came to the city.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/7_2.mp3
Everywhere, there are so many rubbish bins,
that people fill up with good food.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/7_3.mp3
This morning, I almost found a whole burger.
— Would you like to come with us to the forest? Moley says.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/7_4.mp3
— No, the fox says. — I feel most at home here.
All my friends also live in the city.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/7_5.mp3
Now Otus, Spiky and the dove join them.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/7_6.mp3
Spiky has had a good snooze,
so now they are ready to fly home to the forest.
book_data/moleysvisittoabigcity/lyd/7_7.mp3
Moley gets onto the dove
and waves to the fox.
